CLARK
So, you must be excited.
LOIS
I don't know, Clark, walking to
work with you isn't really the
thrill it used to be.
CLARK
No, no. The Kerth Awards. They
announce the nominees tomorrow.
LOIS
(blase)
Oh, is that tomorrow?
CLARK
C'mon, Lois, you get nominated
every year...
LOIS
Not every year... just... every
year since I've been eligible.
CLARK
I bet you get it for the Bolivian
Drug Cartel Series.
LOIS
Well, the awards dinner's always
fun and it'd be a nice way to break

up.

You rent your tux yet?

Then they spot the vault -- wide open and stripped clean.

6 INT. DAILY PLANET - (DAY 2) 6
JIMMY is all the way across the newsroom, watching Lois from
a distance, a sneaky smile on his face.
7 CLOSE ON LOIS 7
at her desk, on the phone.
LOIS
(into phone)
Look, I've talked to your Sergeant,
your Detectives and your
Lieutenant, now Captain, how can
the police have no leads? ...Oh, I
see, you _have_ them but you won't
share. Didn't your mother teach
you it's _rude_ not to share?
...Hello?
Hung up on, she glares at the phone and SLAMS it down. Then
picks up a pen and tries to make some notes. It's out of
ink. Jimmy saunters up.
JIMMY
'Didn't your mother teach you it's
rude not to share?' Good one.
LOIS
Didn't _your_ mother teach you it's
rude to eavesdrop?
(scratching pen on
paper; no ink)
What is _with_ this pen?
JIMMY
It's not a pen.
LOIS
Jimmy, if this is some Zen parable
about pens not being pens and desks
not being desks, I'm not in the
mood.
Jimmy takes the pen and uncaps it -- revealing its
electronic inner works.

JIMMY
Not super-super, it's only got a

But here's a cool thing, see this
switch? AM/FM radio...
Clark bursts in, clutching a videotape.
CLARK
Got it.
He moves to the bank of TV monitors on the wall and pops the
tape into the VCR. Lois and Jimmy follow.
LOIS
What?
CLARK
Video from the bank security
cameras. Now maybe we'll find out
why the police have such a tight
lid on this thing.
They all gather round the set.
INTERCUT:
8 ON TV - THE BANK 8
Seen from the HIGH ANGLE of the security camera the morning
of the robbery. Customers are in line, Employees at their

Eerie, seductive, almost melodic.
People in the bank begin to wilt like water-starved flowers,
then drop, one by one.

Sound is a mechanical disturbance
with limited speed. When an object
reaches seven-hundred-and-forty
miles per hour, it catches up with
its own noise and the piled-up
energy takes the form of a violent
shockwave called a sonic boom.

97 EXT. METROPOLIS CITY HALL - VARIOUS SHOTS - DAY 97

speakers. Everything begins to VIBRATE.
98 INT. STOKE MUSIC ROOM - DAY 98
Stoke watches this on monitors, smiling, when --
Superman's Blue Streak _BLASTS_ through a wall and in a

smashed and SPUTTERING, as he turns and sees Superman
standing amid the smoking wreckage.
LOIS
(beaming)
Like I was saying, you don't want
to do this... because you don't
want to make him mad.
Holding Stoke's gloves and gun, Superman crushes them. (X)
STOKE
But how -- ? How -- ?
SUPERMAN
Simple. Broke the sound barrier.
He tosses the crushed guns and gloves aside and grabs Stoke.
STOKE
No, no, please, I -- I hate flying.

won't be getting the chance for a

wear. Clark holds a small cut glass statue -- the Kerth
Award. Perry, also in tux, shakes Clark's hand.
PERRY
Son, I'm as proud as a papa.
LOIS
Not as proud as I am. Your speech
was great.
PERRY
Well, that's a nice little attitude
adjustment. What brought that on?
LOIS
I'm just... glad I have such a good
partner.

Off he goes. Lois and Clark walk.
LOIS
So how did I rate as a date?
CLARK
A-plus.
LOIS
I hung on your arm decoratively?
CLARK
You did.
LOIS
Fawned appropriately?
CLARK
Absolutely.
LOIS
And then just faded into the

CLARK
You were beautiful, yet invisible.
LOIS
(with a thousand watt

Make me go through another night

CLARK
Fair enough.
Clark studies his prize.

It's smaller than I thought.

I'm the wrong person to ask. I

She opens an armoire and there, spectacularly lit and
dazzlingly displayed, are her three Kerth Awards.
She sighs contentedly at the sight of them, then notices a

cleaning solvent on the spot and rubs fastidiously. Behind
her, she hears curtains RUFFLE in the breeze, turns and --
Superman is standing in front of the open window.

I saw your light. Is this a bad
