Diana Stride, célèbre journalilste, veut tout savoir sur les pouvoirs de Superman alors elle décide de mettre le feu au sommet d'un gratte-ciel et se jette en bas. Quand Superman la sauve, elle le marque pour le suivre à la trace.
Un homme d'InterGang est protégé car il doit témoigner contre un assassins qui tuent des personnes connues. La meurtrière est Diana Stride et elle doit tuer le témoin protégé. Loïs retrouve la trace du témoin en volant le téléavertisseur de Mayson mais Diana tire sur le témoins. Superman amène l'homme à l'hôpital.
Diana, très vexée de ce qu'a fait Superman, demande à son patron de la kryptonite qu'elle intègre à son rouge à lèvre. Elle invite Superman à souper et l'embrasse. Il tombe malade. En le suivant, elle voit Clark se changer en Superman.
Loïs amène Superman à l'hôpital mais pendant ce temps, Diana tourne un émission près des habits de Superman qui sont accorché dans l'appartement de Clark.
Superman guérit et Diana va à l'hôpital pour tuer le témoin. Loïs sauve le témoin et Mayson mais Diana prend s'enfuit.
L'émission passe à la télé et la véritable identité de Superman est révélée. Clark convoque une conférence de presse où Superman apparaît grâce au hologrammes de sa mère.

one of the tallest in the city. From inside its penthouse,
the sudden WHOMPH of an EXPLOSION, then FLAMES flicker
behind the windows.
2 EXT. PENTHOUSE TERRACE - NIGHT 2
Through curtained French doors, we glimpse FLAME and smoke,
spreading. A WOMAN stands in the doorway, her curving back
to us, holding a lit lighter. A trendily smooth Euro-man
named ROLF steps up behind her. Neither seems at all
concerned by the fire.
ROLF
Nice work.
WOMAN
(clicks off lighter)
Thanks.
ROLF
How long till the flames engulf (X)
this floor?
WOMAN
Six, maybe seven minutes. How do I
look?
ROLF
Fabulous. Naturally.
She turns and steps into the light, a striking beauty with
the soul of a born predator: DIANA STRIDE. Rolf opens a
compact so she can inspect her face.
DIANA
See him yet? (X)
Rolf studies the sky. (X)

dives off the side of the building.

No more flames, only residual smoke. We hear O.S. BLASTS of
SUPER-BREATH coming from inside. Diana and Rolf wait out
here. He holds what looks like a hand-sized TV but is in
actuality (we shall learn) a tracking device.
ROLF
You're sure you tagged him?
DIANA
On the neck. Are you getting a
reading?
ROLF
Not yet.
DIANA
Here. Adjust the calibrations to a
higher frequency -- (X)
Superman steps out of the penthouse. Rolf kneels and slips
the tracker into a camera case at his feet, then hefts his (X)
camera out, puts it on his shoulder. (X)
SUPERMAN
It's all right, the fire's out.
Rolf and Diana feign great relief.
DIANA
Superman, thank you so much. I'm
Diana Stride.
SUPERMAN
Yes, Ms. Stride, I've seen your
news show.
Rolf's camera light goes on. He is now filming Diana and (X)
Superman. (X)
DIANA
Really. You watch TV?
SUPERMAN
Once in a while.
He rubs his neck where Diana touched him. Rolf and Diana
glance at one another.
DIANA
This is my cameraman. Rolf.
ROLF
Pleasure.

Rolf?
ROLF
I simply can't.
SUPERMAN
I checked the elevator, it's still
working. You should be able to get
down okay.
DIANA
Superman, if there's ever anything

SUPERMAN
Take care, Ms. Stride.
(still scratching)

ON THEIR FACES they watch him WHOOSH off. Rolf lowers the (X)

Diana lifts the tracker. It BEEPS. She smiles.

It's working. We can track him.
(the BEEPING stops)

uplifting and intellectually
challenging. And that's why our (X)

MAN being led out of a car by HEAVILY-ARMED COPS and into a
government building.
PERRY
We don't know. The DA's calling
him Mr. X. Word is, Intergang's
been killing world leaders for
decades, making it look like
accidents, and _this_ fella's gonna
finger their number one assassin.
Now I want the story on this guy so
by the time he takes the stand, the
Planet has the headlines -- who he
is, where he came from, what he's
gonna say. All right? Go get him.
They break. Jimmy and Perry head for the doors. Lois makes
some notes. Clark busies himself putting on his jacket.

tracker's BEEPING, getting louder as he ZEROES in on it

(checking to see her

The elevator doors snap open and Rolf, camera on shoulder,
follows Diana as she gets off, holding the tracker. People
stop and stare at the sight of her. She sweeps through the
enormous room like royalty, following the tracker's BEEPS to
the back hall as they come faster and louder.
Lois looks up and sees her move past. Perry is standing
nearby. All three exchange a confused look.
PERRY
Is that who I think it is?
Diana moves right past Lois, _her crescent moon pendant_
_hanging outside her blouse for the rest of the scene_. (X)
DIANA
Got him. He's right --
Superman steps around the corner.
DIANA (CONT'D)
-- here.
(smiles)
Superman. You didn't hear about my
story, did you?
SUPERMAN
(tight)
Afraid so.
DIANA
There goes my surprise.
(to the room, tucking

Everyone -- I'm Diana Stride and

Superman.
APPLAUSE as she makes a grand gesture toward him. He
scratches his neck and looks annoyed.

had hoped it would be a surprise

secrets from the Man of Steel. So.

She sits with Rolf, having a drink, planning their next
move.
DIANA
Maybe he works there, as someone

ROLF

A lamp on her desk blinks on -- then off. Then on again.
ROLF (CONT'D)
Must be the bulb.
DIANA
(sharp)
I'll get it. You go home.
ROLF

DIANA

He nods and exits. The TV switches on by itself. ON (X)

even be saying this. Apparently,
the assassin is famous.
Lois' eyes light on a beeper sitting in Mayson's bag. She
pretends to drop her pen, then pretends to bend to get it.
MAYSON (CONT'D)
(to Clark, who is busy
scribbling)
Really famous.
Lois reaches for the beeper. Should she?
MAYSON (CONT'D)
And if I say another word, I'll be
looking for a new career.
CLARK
I appreciate this, Mayson. Thanks.
Lois?
Lois palms the beeper, straightens up and tries not to look
guilty.
LOIS
Yes!
CLARK
We should get going.
LOIS
(up and out like a shot)
We should! Thanks, Mayson, bye!
She heads off.
CLARK
(to Mayson, moving to
catch up with Lois)
I'll uhhh... I'll call you.
MAYSON
I'd like to talk. Things got left
kind of up in the air between us...

Yeah, brilliant. We now know where
Mayson's maid lives, her secretary,

LOIS

found the government safe house.
She hands the binoculars to Jimmy. Clark lowers his glasses

They whip around and see THREE SWATTERS levelling rifles at
them.

31 EXT. ANOTHER PART OF THE WOODS - NIGHT 31
Two SWATTERS patrol the forest. They pass a tall tree and
move OFF CAMERA. A FIGURE IN BLACK drops silently out of
the high branches, moves into the moonlight and we see it's
Diana -- wearing a black commando jumpsuit, boots, gloves
and an array of weaponry around a web belt. She crouches,
pulls out a mini-cannon, snaps open a stand and sets it
down. Then loads a small rocket into it, hits a button and
moves off. WE MOVE IN ON the cannon, seeing its
computerized countdown.
32 EXT. WOODS NEAR POND - NIGHT 32
Diana glides through the forest like a panther -- silent,
deadly and utterly sure of herself. She comes to the pond's
edge pulls a black hood up over her hair and slips into the
water, disappearing under the surface.
33 EXT. SAFE HOUSE - NIGHT 33
Lois, Jimmy and Clark, hands laced behind their heads, led
by the three Swatters who nabbed them.
JIMMY
I'm too young and boyish to go to
jail.

forest, looking for the assassin. Lois and Jimmy appear.

a state's witness. I want to say
to anyone out there thinking of
making a second attempt....

I've got an idea.
She whispers in Clark's ear, then moves to her desk. Diana,
Perry and Jimmy cross the pit to Perry's office.

tripods.

Lois is onto something. Diana
Stride's not what she seems.
MARTHA
Too bad. Your father always had a
little crush on her.
JONATHAN
That's not true, Martha, I've just
always thought she was very...
MARTHA
Sizzling? Vivacious?
JONATHAN
... trustworthy.
CLARK
I don't know about that, Dad. She
wants to find out Superman is Clark
Kent and tell the world. And I'm
not sure I can stop her.
MARTHA

this theory about her being some
kind of assassin...

MARTHA
It is. My professor says it's the
sculpture of the future -- light.
Clark and Jonathan just look at each other.

Shadowy. An O.S. WHOOSH and Superman steps into frame. A
match is lit across the room, illuminating Rolf, who is
bending to light the candles at an exquisitely set dinner
table for two.
ROLF
Hello, there. Diana will be here
in just a moment. Meanwhile, can I
get you some wine? It's not a bad
Merlot.
SUPERMAN
No, thank you, Rolf.
ROLF
You know, while I have you here,
there's something I've always
wanted to ask you. When I wear my
very tightest ski pants, I always
get a bit... chafed. Do you find
this happens to you?
SUPERMAN
No. But it helps to be
invulnerable.
Diana makes her entrance, dressed in a gown that would make
grown men weep.

She suddenly turns away and crosses to the table, pours a

He looks at her. Her back is to him.

shoulders shake and she lifts her hand to her face, crying.

Now we are CLOSE on Diana's face as she pulls a lipstick (X)
out of her pocket and uncaps it. The lipstick has a GREEN (X)
KRYPTONIE GLOW. She dabs it onto her lips, which give off (X)
a deadly little SPARKLE. (X)
DIANA
That's what made me do this, or
maybe it's just because I'm no
good.
Superman moves to her and puts a hand on her shoulder.
SUPERMAN
There's good in everyone.
She turns and suddenly kisses him hard on the mouth. He's
startled and it takes a moment before he gently pries her
off.
DIANA
(with an evil smile)
Not everyone.
He touches his lips and looks at her, getting woozy. He
drops to his knees in front of her.
DIANA (CONT'D)
Please, Superman. Not on a first
date.
Superman shakes his head clear and gets up.
SUPERMAN
Ms. Stride, you don't want me for
an enemy.
DIANA
But I've got you.
Superman touches his lips again and exits with a WHOOSH.
Diana sits back in her chair and wipes her lips.

She switches off the TV. Rolf walks in.
ROLF
So... we have a new way to track
Mr. Steely Pants?
Diana hits a button on the tracker. It starts to BEEP.
DIANA
I made him swallow a radioactive
substance.
ROLF
(grins)
I'll just bet you did.
DIANA
And this time when we get close,
he'll probably be a little too
distracted to notice us.
She dials down the noise of the BEEPER, silencing it. Now a
light just flashes. The two share a nasty laugh.

JIMMY

PERRY
(shakes his head)
Norcross and Judd all over again.
JIMMY
You really think it's that bad?
PERRY
Son, they're a truckload of nitro
speedin' down a mountain, the
brakes are out and they don't even
know it.
Lois and Clark walk up to her desk.
LOIS
Well, we've hit a big wall on the
Diana front. What next?
(studies him)
Hey. You look kind of pale, you okay?
CLARK
I'm fine. Just a headache.
Jimmy walks up with a message slip.
JIMMY
Message from Mayson Drake.
(reads)
She says you've now got exactly one
hour to answer her question, or
else.
Lois and Clark look at each other.
LOIS

Diana and Rolf come up the fire escape ladder and creep onto
the terrace, following the map on the tracker. They move to
the big slanted window and through it --

of a weakened Clark hanging up the phone and coming into
view, unbuttoning his shirt and revealing the Big Red S. He
pulls off his glasses.

drop down, not wanting to be seen as their eyes go wide.
DIANA
Oh, my God. Clark Kent is Superman
and we've got it on _film_.
ROLF
Woops.
DIANA
Woops. Did you just say...

stumbles into the living room, heading for the door.
65 INT. CLARK'S LIVING ROOM - DAY 65
He moves up the stairs to the door, so weak he can barely
walk. He stumbles and drops to his knees.
66 EXT. CLARK'S FRONT DOOR - DAY 66
Lois walks up and knocks. Peers through the glass and sees
Superman on his knees, collapsed.
LOIS
Superman!
He doesn't respond. She pulls her coat off, balls it around
her fist and SMASHES it through the glass, unlocks the door
and yanks it open.
67 INT. CLARK'S APARTMENT - LANDING - DAY 67
Lois kneels.
LOIS
Superman, what are you doing -- ?
SUPERMAN
Gotta get... gotta get to a
hospital... (X)
68 EXT. CLARK'S TERRACE - DAY 68
Breathless, Rolf scurries up the ladder. Diana glares at
him icily.
ROLF
I'm sorry, I'm so sor --

Rolf films, Diana searches, tapping walls. She finds the
hollow behind the false wall of the secret closet in his
living room, slides it open and --
-- there are Superman's spare uniforms.
DIANA
Well, well.
(touches hair, stands
next to uniforms)
I'm ready for my close up, Mr. De
Mille.
As Rolf aims the camera at her and the super-uniforms, she
lifts the mic to her lips.

The Doctor who attended to Disanto examines the
ever-weakening Superman, who lies on a bed under covers, (X)
bare-chested, hooked up to heart monintors and EKG'S. (X)
SUPERMAN

SUPERMAN

He tries to get up but he can't.

hat and uniform, along with a pair of mirrored aviator
glasses. She passes TWO UNIFORMED COPS in the hall. They
exchange nods. She moves around the corner, to --
A checkpoint. TWO MORE COPS and Mayson Drake. She stops.

through. He crosses to another steel door. This is the (X)
reactor. He unlocks it, pulls it open and -- (X)
SEARING WHITE LIGHT BLASTS out at him. He shields his eyes (X)
and moves inside the reactor, shutting the door behind him. (X)
WE PUSH IN ON the door and see the words METROPOLIS NUCLEAR (X)
POWER PLANT. (X)
77 INT. HOSPITAL CORRIDOR NEAR DISANTO'S ROOM - NIGHT 77
Thick with Cops and Swatters. A NURSE is searched with a
metal detector at Disanto's door. Diana moves past the cops
and around the corner to -- (X)
78 INT. HOSPITAL VENTILATION ROOM - CONTINUOUS 78
Diana closes the door behind her and moves to the main
heating and cooling juncture; pries open the vent. Then,
from her jacket, takes two items: one, a gas mask; the
other, a metal canister. She slips the gas mask on, then
pulls a pin on the canister. A jet of gas hisses out of the
canister. She sets it inside the juncture, closes the vent
and looks at her watch.

Diana's gas escape, then evaporate. TILT DOWN to all the
Cops and Swatters around Disanto's door -- on the floor, (X)
unconscious. (X)
83 INT. HOSPITAL CORRIDOR - MAYSON'S CHECKPOINT - NIGHT 83
Lois and Mayson conferring at the far end of the hall. (X)
MAYSON
... wait, you're telling me that
Diana _Stride_ is a professional
assassin?
LOIS
Look, I know it's hard to believe
but --
Lois hears a THUNK, turns and sees all the Cops in the hall (X)
passed out. Mayson moves to the cops and suddenly gets (X)
woozy herself. Lois sniffs the air. (X)
LOIS (CONT'D)
Mayson, it's gas, get back!
Too late. Mayson keels over next to the cops. Lois
stumbles, about to succumb, then grabs an oxygen mask off a (X)
gurney. Cranks the oxygen on the tank and breathes. (X)

85 INT. HOSPITAL CORRIDOR NEAR DISANTO'S ROOM - NIGHT 85
Dressed in nurses's white, Diana walks over the sleeping (X)
cops and enters Disanto's room. (X)
86 INT. DISANTO'S ROOM - NIGHT 86
Disanto is on his bed, unconscious, hooked up to life
support. Diana creeps in, then extracts a syringe from her
pocket and --
DIANA
Hello, Michael.
His eyes flutter open. Then widen in horror.
DIANA (CONT'D)
Good-bye, Michael.
She lays the needle against his arm, as the window flies
open and Lois leaps in from the ledge and launches herself
at Diana. Diana shoves Lois off. Her movements are (X)
assured and deadly as she circles Lois. (X)
DIANA (CONT'D)
You're in way over your head, Lois.
LOIS
I've only got one thing to say to
you, honey --
Diana goes for the kill but --
LOIS (CONT'D)
(blocks the blow) (X)
-- keep your lips off Superman!
Lois finishes with a roundhouse wallop. Diana drops back,
pulls up her white dress and we see a commando knife
strapped to her thigh. She pulls it and smiles.
COP VOICES
(various)
In here! This way! Come on!
Diana hears the running footsteps approach. She deftly
flips the knife, catching the blade in her fingertips as she
brings it up behind her head

THREE SWATTERS IN GAS MASKS burst in and level guns at her.
LOIS
Wrong reporter.
She points out the window.
87 INT. NUCLEAR GAS TREATMENT CENTER - NIGHT 87
We hear a SUPER-SCREAM, then the door flies open, light
SEARS through the gas and Superman stumbles out, face
contorted in pain, the SCREAM dying down. He drops to his
knees.
He rises slowly. Takes a step. Then another. Each more
assured than the last.
88 INT. HOSPITAL CORRIDOR - NIGHT 88
Near the nursers station. Woozy Cops and Hospital Staff (X)
are coming to. Superman and Lois in mid-embrace. (X)
LOIS
I'm so glad you're all right.
SUPERMAN
She didn't hurt you...?
LOIS
I'm fine... I'll be a little achy
in the morning but --
Mayson walks up, still groggy. (X)
MAYSON
Diana made a clean getaway, we
can't find her.
(to Superman)
Maybe _you_ could, ohhh, I don't
know... help out with the search?

The elevators PING open. Everyone turns. Clark steps off.

REPORTERS clog the street and sidewalk, grouped around a
podium on a dais. Lois, Jimmy, Perry and some Staffers are
led out of the lobby by Clark.

Where we spy Martha and Jonathan Kent, each manning a (X)
laser, activated and aimed down at the Planet Globe. (X)
MARTHA
Jonathan, we're getting a blip in
the hologram...
99 EXT. PLANET - ON SUPERMAN - NIGHT 99
TIGHT ON a tiny speaker stuck to one of the beams holding up
the Globe. This is where his VOICE is coming from. (X)

uniforms were in his closet because
he's nice enough to clean them for
me.

I don't have a washing machine...
or a place to hang my spare capes.
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got
to go pick somebody up.
He SOARS over the Crowd and out of sight. Clark looks at
the assembled Reporters, then zeroes in on Lois:
CLARK
Any questions?
The ROAR of VOICES is deafening.

SUPERMAN
Diana, you ought to come with a
Surgeon General's warning.
DIANA
(with an evil chuckle)

(smiles, moves to him)
You are some partner.
CLARK
Is that all I am, Lois?
She looks at him.
LOIS
I don't know. I know how I feel...
but I also know what I think. And
they're two very different things.
CLARK

LOIS
