1   EXT. THE METROPOLIS POLICE EVIDENCE WAREHOUSE - DAY #1                         1

A chain-link fence.  Rusted sign:  "Metropolis Police
Evidence Warehouse."  The gate is open.  A busted padlock.
The warehouse in the b.g.  An OLD DUFFER SECURITY GUARD
approaches the busted lock and studies it through his
half-glasses.  Now this is mighty peculiar.

   2   INT. EVIDENCE WAREHOUSE - DAY 2                                                2

Gloom.  Steel-grated evidence lockups.  HERKIMER JOHNSON
approaches.  He's dressed in an ill-fitting rented cop
uniform.  His face is vulpine, twitchy.  Herkimer stops at a
lockup containing an array of mechanically bizarre and
twisted toys.  A label on the door: "BAD BRAIN (RUFUS)
JOHNSON - DECEASED."  A hand-written note has been taped to
the door:  "HOLD FOR THE MUSEUM OF CRIME."

                                              HERKIMER
Museum of Crime.  I think not.
                         Psycho nutbag poseur!

He crumples the note and places a small, metal box (dial,
buttons, LEDs) over the lockup's deadbolt, pokes a button
and we HEAR A METALLIC BANG.  We see the deadbolt                               (X)
mechanism, bent and twisted, fall to the lockup floor.                          (X)
Herkimer removes the device revealing a hole in the door                        (X)
where the lock used to be.                                                      (X)

He pushes open the door and withdraws a small                                   (X)
thermos-shaped explosive device from his shirt.

A DOOR SLAMS somewhere.  Herkimer freezes.

SUPERMAN, standing firm, hotly questions DETER who navigates
       the interrogation with charm.

                                              DETER
It's just a very long tunnel.  Your                           (X)
friend Mr. Kent needs to relax.                               (X)
Would he like me to prescribe him
                         something?

                                              SUPERMAN
                         No.  Clark understands this will
take time.  But you can appreciate
his anxiety.  The woman he loves
says she's in love with you.

                                              DETER
Superman, do you know what                                    (X)

                                              DETER
Very good.  You've had some                                   (X)

                               (off Superman's growing                                 (X)

                         their doctors as saviors...                                   (X)

                                              SUPERMAN
Understood, but then you add in                               (X)
the fact that since she's been out                            (X)
of the hospital Clark's only seen                             (X)
her a total of sixty minutes...                               (X)

                                              DETER
Because right now my method                                   (X)
                         requires limited visitation.

He slams the truck doors and runs for the driver's door.
Herkimer jumps in and the door clips his helmet.  A

producing the remote control and switching the Vibro-Whammy

Wait.  Wait.  You made me quit the
Planet?! I'm going to the South of
                      France?!  Are you nuts?!

She hauls him up by lapels.

                                           DETER
                      Lois, I love you.

                                           LOIS
You took advantage of me!  You lied
                      to me!  You _seduced_ me!

                                           HERKIMER (O.S.)
Wow, Doc, sounds like you really
                      _crossed the line_.

Lois looks from Deter to Herkimer, who's just coming down
the stairs.  Roweena hurries behind him.

                                           ROWEENA
                      Herkimer, what are these people
                      doing in my basement?
                             (sees the Vibro-Whammy)
                      And what is that monstrosity?!

Herkimer hands Roweena her helmet and wields the
      Vibro-Whammy's remote control.

                                           HERKIMER
Ignore 'em, Mom.  Party crashers.                                (X)
Here, put this on.  You're gonna
                      love it.

                                           DETER
                      No, Herkimer.

                                           LOIS
                      Don't turn it on..

Lois lunges for the remote control.  Herkimer aims a
threatening finger at the remote control's ON button.

                                           HERKIMER
                      Stay back!  Or I will!

      Deter and Lois freeze.

                                           DETER
Mrs. Johnson, your son is severly
                      disturbed.

                                           ROWEENA
Tell me something I don't know.

Roweena suddenly clues in, thinking she's got the gist.

                                           ROWEENA (CONT'D)
What's this thing gonna do, fry
                      their brains out?

                      No --

                                           ROWEENA
Well, is it gonna kill 'em or not?!

                                           HERKIMER
No, it's going to make the world a
                      better place for you.

                                           ROWEENA
You want to make the world a better
                      place?  Leave it.

Roweena pulls a wicked-looking energy pistol off the
      pegboard and stalks Lois.

                                           ROWEENA (CONT'D)
Should have done this a long time
