FADE IN:
1 INT. LOIS' KITCHEN - ON LOIS - NIGHT #1 1
LOIS is washing dishes, handing them in rapid succession to
an O.S. CLARK, during:
LOIS
You won't believe what I got in the
mail. A flyer from the Winky-Tink
preschool. See, this store where I
registered for wedding gifts sold
my name...
REVEAL that as Clark is handed wet dishes, he dries them in
an instant with heat vision, stacks them on the counter.
LOIS (CONT'D)
... and now I'm getting _bombarded_
with junk mail...
(amused, watches him)
Don't wear yourself out.
CLARK
Preschool, huh? We won't even be
married for three more weeks (X)
LOIS
Winky-Tink says now's the time. (X)
They have a five year waiting list
and require a two hundred dollar
deposit.
CLARK
(grins)
Do they also require a child?
LOIS
Nope, just money.
CLARK
You know... we really haven't
talked much about that.
LOIS
Money?

Children. Think we'll be good
parents?
LOIS
(lightly)
I guess so. When the time comes.
I mean, you will be for sure, and
I'll probably catch on.
She smiles, gives him a quick kiss, moves on. Clark smiles,
but he's still thinking. _KA-BOOM_!! A tremendous
EXPLOSION in the street outside. A BLINDING FLASH OF LIGHT.
LOIS (CONT'D)
My God, what was... ?
A WHOOSH, she turns, he's gone. (X)
2 EXT. THE STREET IN FRONT OF LOIS' APARTMENT - NIGHT 2
Superman extinguishes a burning, bomb-blasted car with SUPER
BREATH as Lois runs down the stoop stairs. People are
appearing in doorways, window.
LOIS
(into her cel phone)
Ten-fifty-eight Carter Avenue! A
car! It exploded!
(to Superman)
Was anybody hurt?
Superman leads Lois to the blasted figure of BUD COLLINS.
SUPERMAN
It's Bud Collins.
LOIS
Oh, Bud.
SUPERMAN
I think it was a car bomb. I
smelled C-4.
Collins thrusts a bomb-blasted laptop computer at her.
COLLINS
(with his last breath)
Lois. It's all there. Encrypted
on my hard drive. But it's all
there.

COLLINS
You were right about Trevanian.
(coughs)
He and the NIA... Saturday...
Noon...
LOIS
'Saturday...?'
COLLINS
(fading fast)
Superman. Anybody tell ya you look
just like Clark Kent? Only without
the glasses.
Collins makes a wide-eyed connection... then promptly dies.
LOIS
Bud? Bud?!
Suddenly, a SQUEAL of tires rounding the corner. Superman
grabs the computer, tosses it, and it WHOOSHES straight up.
3 NEW ANGLE 3
A black Viper SCREECHES to a stop and out of it leaps the
lovely SWEET TART, incredibly sexy, a killer's eyes, wearing
a skin tight jump suit. She has a gun aimed at them.
SWEET TART
Let's hold it right there.
SUPERMAN
(eying her gun)
New in town?
Exasperated, she leans over Collins. (X)
SWEET TART
He's dead. (X)
SUPERMAN
I'm afraid so.

you anything before he died?

SWEET TART

LOIS
(reading I.D. to (X)
Superman wryly)
'Sweet' Tart. With the National (X)
Intelligence Agency.
4 INT. DARKENED N.I.A. OFFICE - NIGHT 4
A rotund man with thick wire-rimmed glasses, hat, and
impeccably tailored suit sits smoking in semi-silhoutte.
This is TREVANIAN. He listens to a sleek-looking receiver.
SWEET TART (V.O.)
Mr. Collins was a colleague. He
had a lap top computer with him
when he left the NIA office.
LOIS (V.O.)
What can I tell you? It must've
burned in the car.
TREVANIAN
Liar.
5 THE STREET 5
Sweet Tart gives them a suspicious look, climbs in her car.
SWEET TART
I'll be in touch.
And she SCREECHES off. Superman holds out a hand and the
lap top computer plops down into his palm. An Ambulance
appears at the end of the street. CAMERA MOVES IN on Lois
and Superman as she stares fearfully down at the computer.
LOIS
Oh boy. What have we got?

FADE IN:
6 EXT. A POND IN THE WOODS - DAY #2 6
(We can hear a TRAIN approaching from somewhere.)
SUPER: (in hi-tech spy movie teletype)
_Velogrud Pass in the Boroslav Republic_
A handheld detonator, LEDS FLASHING, skitters down a dock
toward the water. It stops with an inch to spare.
Suddenly, JACK OLSEN, (mid 40s) a ruthlessly sexy secret
agent in black jumpsuit, dives for it. He doesn't make it.
He's grabbed and dragged backwards by the biggest HENCHMAN
we've ever seen. Jack and the Henchman FIGHT. It's brutal,
cool, and very Bondian. Jack is lifted and THROWN! The
Henchman runs for the detonator. Jack chases him down,
spins him around, takes aim at the Henchman's massive jaw.
JACK
You're going to make me (X)
(PUNCH!)
-- miss my train! (X)
The Henchman timbers back and CRASHES to the dock
unconscious. The back of his head STRIKES the detonator's
button. CLICK. BEEP. And there's an immediate distant
EXPLOSION! Jack looks over his shoulder as light FLASHES
across his face and we cut to

9 EXT. THE WOODS - DAY 9
Jack runs down a rutted road, gun in hand. Suddenly, a
FIGURE KICKS THE GUN from his hand. A flurry of thrown and
blocked PUNCHES and KICKS between Jack and the unknown
Figure, clad in black. Finally the figure flies back,
landing hard on the ground. It pulls off its hood to reveal
the lovely Sweet Tart.
JACK
(casually) (X)
Sweet? Bit far from home, aren't
you?
SWEET TART
(getting up)
Change in plans. Almost had you.
An engine's ROAR and Jack looks to the massive Hum-Vee
SKIDDING to a stop. Trevanian in the driver's seat.
SWEET TART (CONT'D)
Trevanian needs you. Something
delicate.
CUT TO:
10 EXT. WOODS - ON CHAMPAGNE BOTTLE - DAY 10
POP! as we PULL BACK to find a small table set with crisp
linen and china in the woods near the Hum-Vee. Trevanian,
impeccably attired, with hat, supports his bulk with an
expensive walking stick. Jack, leans against the car,
studying a dossier, watches with detached amusement as Sweet
Tart pours champagne into Trevanian's crystal flute and he
sips, then spits it out savagely.
TREVANIAN
Swill.
Sweet Tart sips, spits.
SWEET TART
Swill.
Trevanian holds the glass up for Jack's inspection.

Pages of text clipped to the left flap. On the right,

TREVANIAN
(wheezing softly)
Collins was in possession before he
died on Lane's doorstep. I can
only assume she's got it. If
Superman hadn't been there we
wouldn't be having this
conversation.
JACK
What is Lois Lane's connection to (X)
Collins?
Trevanian plucks the head from his walking stick revealing
it to be a small dagger. He spears a chunk of cheese,
nibbles, as:
TREVANIAN
She and Clark Kent are writing a (X)
series of articles claiming
corruption inside the NIA. All
lies of course.
JACK
(not completely
convinced)
Of course.
TREVANIAN
We believe Collins was their inside
source. But the damage goes deeper
than that.
SWEET TART
Once they realized the kind of
information Collins had access to,
temptation got the better of them.
They've been peddling NIA secrets
to the highest bidder.
JACK
These... respected journalists.
TREVANIAN
(irritably)
Yes, these respected
journalists. _Every_one's

JACK
You want me to get the computer
back.
TREVANIAN
By this Saturday. At noon,
Metropolis time. Or our national
security will be hit with an
unparalleled disaster.
JACK
You'll get it.
Jack unzips his jumpsuit to reveal himself smartly attired
in jacket and slacks. A convertible sports car ROARS into
FRAME on-the road, an incredibly beautiful woman at the
wheel. She stops, smiles at Jack. Sweet Tart glares.
JACK (CONT'D)
My ride.
As Jack crosses to the car, Trevanian grabs his arm.
TREVANIAN
Jack. It's a level five operation.
So if anyone should get in your way
on this...
JACK
I know the rules, Trevanian.
Jack wrests himself from Trevanian's grip, then beaming
cheerfully at the woman, and with a jaunty smile at Sweet
Tart, hops into the car and tears off down the road.

CLARK
Trevanian's head of covert

could be dangerous... Willing to

LOIS
The NIA's gotten so powerful... (X)
They have a blank check to pull (X)

PERRY

He zips the thing up in the gym bag.
LOIS
Collins mentioned 'Saturday.

happening.
PERRY
That gives you just two days.

Jack finds Clark's desk. He pulls a small transmitter (X)

What... what are you doing here?!
Jack is Jimmy's father. He removes the object from his
pocket. It's a small, wrapped gift for Jimmy.
JACK
How you doin' son?
An awkward moment for all as Jack and Jimmy decide what to
do with the next moment. They opt for a manly handshake.

Jimmy lightly punches his Dad's shoulder and pulls away.
JIMMY (CONT'D)
I think the glow light on your

Jimmy walks off. Jack looks at the lie-detector watch that
moments before had been pointed at Jimmy. It glows a bright

switch on the watch and it goes dark.

The sound of the LOCK BEING PICKED and the room door opens.
Sweet Tart, carrying a silver attache case, enters with
Trevanian, who carries his walking stick and is attired in
beautiful suit and hat.
SWEET TART
You picked the lock.
TREVANIAN

I knocked first.
They look around. Sweet Tart opens the attache case to

SWEET TART
Martini, thanks.

Went to find Jack Olsen.
(jumps up; runs to
elevators)
If Clark calls, tell him I went to
Star Labs to see what Jimmy's
got...
An elevator opens, she dashes inside.
58 INT. ELEVATOR - LOIS 58
It descends for a beat, then stops with a jolt. Lois pushes
buttons to no avail. Sound of a panel sliding open, Lois
looks up and Sweet Tart drops into the car, gun aimed. She
clamps a silver box over the lower elevator buttons, smiles
pleasantly, pushes a button. Elevator HUMS back to life.
SWEET TART
No stops 'til the basement. I'm in
a hurry.
CUT TO:
59 EXT. STAR LABS COMPUTER CENTER - DAY 59
Jimmy hurries out, the gym bag clutched to him, glances
around, starts walking. CAMERA ADJUSTS to reveal, across
from the building, an Agent in a parked sedan, watching.
60 WITH JIMMY 60
He hurries along the sidewalk, a car pulls up, Jack Olsen
jumps out. Jimmy stares at him, suddenly scared. It kills
Jack to see his son looking at him like this.
JACK
Jimmy, I gotta talk to you...
JIMMY
I don't think so, Dad.
JACK
I hope you never look in your son's
eyes and see fear like this.
JIMMY
(trying to keep a grip)

JIMMY

JACK
No.
(then)
What's in the computer, Jimmy?
JIMMY
You gonna kill me now and take it?
JACK
No.
JIMMY
Are you a good guy or a bad guy?
JACK
Depends who's asking.
JIMMY
Your son.
JACK
Then I'm about the best guy you
could have in this situation. What
did you find out?
(as Jimmy hesitates)
Jimmy.
JIMMY
At noon today, somebody's going to
crash a plane using an
electromagnetic pulse fired from a
satellite, then use the same
satellite to transmit a data-eating
virus into a bunch of computers
around the world.
JACK
Who's on the plane?
JIMMY
Code names. Badger, Stingray,
Gypsum --

First, get in my car. We're being
watched.
Jimmy glances around fearfully, gets in the passenger seat.
JACK (CONT'D)
Ready for a little Spy 101?
61 VARIOUS ANGLES 61
Jack moves the car forward. The Agent in the sedan starts
slowly after them. Up ahead, Jack pulls up on the other
side of a U.P.S.-type van. The Agent stops, watches.
Suddenly Jack PEELS out and SCREECHES off up the street.
The Agent guns his engine and pursues, they race off around
the corner. Back at the truck, Jimmy hops down from a
running board, computer-under his arm, running for his life.
He runs to a jumble of parked bikes, motorcycles, jumps on
his motorcycle.
SWEET TART (O.S.)
Not without a helmet, darling.
Jimmy spins as we WIDEN to reveal Sweet Tart. She slugs him
in the jaw and he reels backward.
SWEET TART (CONT'D)
What's the matter? Won't hit a
girl?
She slugs him again and he goes down.
SWEET TART (CONT'D)
Well, I'll say this. You got
better manners than your old man.
She opens the door to the panel van parked next to her and
inside is Lois, handcuffed and gagged. Sweet Tart starts
hauling Jimmy into the van and...

64 EXT. ROOF - METROPOLIS TRADE TOWER - DAY 64
Trevanian aims a radar dish on a tripod up to the sky. His
attache is open, a computer inside. He types commands and
the dish adjusts its attitude. Suddenly, the roof access
door flies open and Sweet Tart shoves Lois and Jimmy into
view.
TREVANIAN
It's high noon, Miss Tart. I hope
you've got it.
She steps to Trevanian and hands him the hard disk.
SWEET TART
Never doubt me.
TREVANIAN
You were always my favorite.
Trevanian slides the hard drive into a slot in the attache
computer. He accesses info, typing furiously.
LOIS
What's on the disk?
JIMMY
A program that creates an
information eating computer virus.
And another to jam a plane's
controls and bring it down.

Secret Service, and my immediate
superior, the director of the NIA.
SWEET TART
On their way to meet the President.
TREVANIAN
They're considering phasing out
the NIA, if you can imagine.
LOIS
(stunned)
You're going to kill them and erase
all their computers. Except one.
Yours.
TREVANIAN
Well, you're also quite quick. And
what does that make me?
LOIS
The only game in town. The man
with all the secrets.
TREVANIAN
The fate of the nation rests in
these hands. Unfortunately, so
does yours. Miss Tart? I say you
can do it in two bullets.

grips Jimmy by the throat, driving him back toward the

Superman hops to the roof's edge, glances over at Jack.

Jack nods with a smile, shakes his hands, and two derringers

(smiles; then glances at
Jimmy)
I'm... afraid I have to run.
Jimmy smiles resignedly. WITH THEM as they walk toward the

85 LOIS AND CLARK 85
Lois watches Clark watching Jimmy watching Jack disappear
into the elevator. He looks troubled.
LOIS
You're obsessing again.
CLARK
Lois, Jimmy grew up without a
father 'cause his dad's work took
over his life. The guy helped keep
the free world together, but he
couldn't do the same for his
family!
LOIS
And you figure the same'll be true
for you, me, and _our_ child.
CLARK
The child who'll barely be able to
pick me out in a police line-up,
because he's hardly seen me? Maybe
I should learn something from Jack.
LOIS
You know what you can learn from
Jack? That he never _was_ father
material. It wasn't the job, it
was the man. Piano tuner or spy,
he wasn't meant to have a family.
You are.
